My Thoughts: On the Recent Batman Casting and Batman Rumor News

The last three weeks we’ve been hearing a lot of Matt Reeve’s The Batman offical casting news and reported rumors like what the Batman suit will look like and when we will get a first look. We got our Alfred Pennyworth and Carmine Falcone. The reported casting rumors of possibly The Penguin, Harvey Dent, and maybe the casting of Barbara Gordon?

My thoughts on Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth

I believe if Andy Serkis was cast as any of the supporting roles not name Catwoman/Selina Kyle. He would be a great casting choice for Penguin, Harvey Dent, Jim Gordon, or whoever is in the movie, because that is how talented he is with his work as an actor. He will be our new Alfred Pennyworth for this new Batman movie world. I am excited to see what brings for Alfred Pennyworth. He is another actor how is a master of disguise in his roles whether it’s with his voice or his live performance.

My thoughts on Jayme Lawson casting announcement

The actress does not have much or no film experience yet, but clearly Matt Reeve’s has an eye for talent. The rumor out there is that she might be cast as Barbara Gordon. I think it is still possibility, but I think Warner Brothers wants someone who has a familiar face with audiences as we keep hearing a Batgirl standalone movie in development and script rumored written by Christina Hodson, who is now writing the Flash movie script. There is other rumors she might be playing a detective in Gotham City. We’ve seen rumors like this in the past for example with Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

So many rumors of Scoot McNairy playing Jimmy Olson, Barry Allen, and Metallo, which was false. I am fine with the new actress playing Barbara Gordon. Matt Reeves knows the material of Batman and the giant expectations fans has for the next Batman movie.

Rumors of Collin Farrell as The Penguin and Matthew McConaughey as Harvey Dent

Even though these are still rumors. I really like the idea of Collin Farrell playing the Penguin for Matt Reeves Batman movie. I can see Colin Farrell as the Penguin version from the Earth One Batman graphic novels. If you have read Batman Earth One by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank the Penguin from volume one was a fit or slim looking Penguin when compared to the traditional Penguin look we’ve seen since over Batman’s 80 year history.

It hasn’t been official if he has signed on yet to play The Penguin. The same can be said about another popular rumor of Matthew McConaughey playing Harvey Dent. Of all the casting rumors I really hope Matthew McConaughey plays Harvey Dent for The Batman movie. He’s great at playing lawyers if you have seen Time to Kill or Lincoln. Any character McConaughey plays he always gives his characters some style and one hell of a personality. Hopefully Warner Brothers can workout a deal to bring Collin Farrell and Matthew McConaughey on board The Batman if the rumors out there are true.

John Turturro as Carmine Falcone

Last week more DC news was breaking out the big one was by Matt Reeves announcing we see a new version of Carmine Falcone in the Batman movie. The casting announcement confirms The Batman will take inspiration to Batman Long Halloween graphic novel. I am a big fan of John Turturro, and having him being a part of The Batman cast is setting the expectations for this movie to be higher. John Turturro in my opinion has always been a underrated actor, because when he has a scene with someone he always steals the spotlight.

It doesn’t matter if he’s doing comedy, action or drama he knows how to steal the spotlight with his performance. I believe Matt Reeves is going to flesh out more of Carmine Falcones Italian roots in The Batman just like Long Halloween did for Carmine Falcone an the Falcone family. John Turturro is half Italian and is from New York City which fits the vision Matt Reeves wants for Carmine Falcone.

Blue and Grey Batman

It was reported on Twitter by Thomas Polito from The Geeks World Wide web site page reported the Batman suit will be blue and grey and the first image Robert Pattinson in the suit will be released soon. In my opinion I don’t find it surprising Batman will be blue and grey if it is true. Matt Reeves gave us a hint last year when he share photos of the Baman 66 costumes. He specifically focus on Riddler, The Penguin, Julie Newmar and Eartha Kitt’ s Catwoman. Which we now know means the Riddler, Penguin, and a biracial Catwoman will be in his Batman movie.

Matt Reeves also focus on Adam West Batman suit which might be another clue of what he is looking for maybe the Batman color schemes, because Adam West wore a nave blue and grey Batman suit. This might be another clue to what he wants to present on screen with his vision for his Batman in his movie. In my opinion I don’t believe we will get a first look of Robert Pattinson in the suit this soon, because they are still in pre production and he is still casting other characters for the movie. Robert Pattinson has been seen trying to get bigger and training in Brazilian Ju Jitsu to prepare for his take on Batman.I don’t expect to see our first look of Robert’s Batman until after Matt Reeves wraps filming The Batman which means probably April 2020 or May 2020 since that was Batman first appearance in Detective Comics 27 could be our first look of Robert Pattinson in the Batman suit.

The Batman movie Logo and Final Thoughts

I think we will get our first look of Matt Reeves Batman logo or bat symbol for his movie before filming starts. I think that will be released sometime in January when filming is rumored to start. I believe with all of the Batman 66 stuff on Matt Reeves Twitter page he is looking to use a lot of the visionary from Batman 66 as inspiration for his Batman movie.

I believe DC films going forward will be more linear. Which means different periods of time in the DC movie world. That means instead have the DC movies happening all at the same time. We will have movies like WW84, Birds of Prey, The Batman, The Suicide Squad, and Aquaman 2 happening at different time periods. One rumor still hasn’t been debunk yet is if this version of Batman takes place in the 90s or early 2000s. Whatever Matt Reeves goes with in terms of what time period this Batman takes place. The cast in the Batman has been the most exciting and fascinating since Chris Nolans Batman Begins film.
